Alkermes announced that its partner Johnson & Johnson filed a supplemental New Drug Application (sNDA) to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for RISPERDAL(R) CONSTA(R) for adjunctive maintenance treatment of frequently relapsing bipolar disorder.
RISPERDAL(R) CONSTA(R) was approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in the United States in 2003. It is the only long-acting antipsychotic approved and marketed. The product uses Alkerme's proprietary Medisorb(R) technology to formulate risperidone-loaded poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid (PLGA) microspheres.
